What a traditional dojo really means

By Shihan Donny Sheinwald

People sometimes walk into Kanzen expecting what they’ve seen elsewhere: high-fives, loud music, a belt handed out every few weeks. That isn’t what we do, and it never has been.

Kanzen Karate School teaches Kanzen Gōjū-Ryū, a traditional system of karate. Teaching here goes back to 1974, to the late Master Harry Rosenstein, and the standards he held are the standards we hold today. Students stand in stance. They stay focused. They earn every rank they’re given.

That seriousness isn’t coldness. We’ll laugh, and we’ll lighten the mood when it’s right. But on the mat, training is training. The result is what keeps families and adult students with us for decades: real self-defense, genuine confidence, and a kind of discipline that shows up at school, at work, and at home.

If that’s what you’re looking for — not a sport, not a daycare, but the real thing — come watch a class, or claim a free trial lesson. We’ll show you what traditional karate can do.
